Why Your Disinfectant Doesn’t Work Well
Lots of users find their chlorine dioxide disinfectant fails to deliver good results. They still smell bad after cleaning, bacteria levels stay above standard, and water quality barely improves.
Shandong Huashi Pharmaceutical has researched and manufactured chlorine dioxide disinfectants for more than 40 years. Our Xiuba brand has served over 30,000 clients across different industries. Drawing from real-world usage data and field debugging experience, we’ve summed up three frequent mistakes that ruin disinfection outcomes. Follow our operating rules to get consistent disinfection results.

Mistake 1: Higher concentration always means better disinfection
This is the most common wrong idea among end users. Many people add more disinfectant to get stronger sterilising power. In fact, once the dosage goes beyond the proper range, the effect will not keep rising. Worse still, extra concentration brings extra troubles:
1. Corrode pipelines, equipment and tools, shortening their service life.
2. Irritate people’s mucous membranes if used in closed rooms.
3. Waste raw materials and push up running costs unnecessarily.
Practical dosage standards for Xiuba chlorine dioxide:
- Drinking water and secondary water supply: 0.1–0.5mg/L
- Food factory premises and equipment surfaces: 50–150mg/L
- Hospital sewage and industrial wastewater: 20–80mg/L
- Public contact surfaces: 100–200mg/L
Mistake 2: Use the product right away without dissolving or activating
Tablets, powder and two-part A+B chlorine dioxide products need full dissolution and activation to release effective sterilising substances.
These wrong operations often happen on site:
- Pour tablets into water before they fully break down.
- Fail to stir powder evenly, leading to uneven concentration. Some areas are too strong while the whole solution lacks active ingredients.
- Mix A and B agents in wrong proportions or do not wait long enough for activation.
- Skip extended activation time when the temperature is low, so the chemical reaction cannot finish completely.
All these errors lead to insufficient active ingredients, so disinfection cannot meet expectations.
Proper operating steps for Xiuba products:
1. Tablets: Keep them in water for 5 to 10 minutes at room temperature until no solid particles remain.
2. Powder: Make a thick paste with a small amount of water first, then add more water and stir for 3 to 5 minutes.
3. A+B dual agents: Mix part A and part B equally, then leave the mixture for 15 to 20 minutes until the liquid turns yellowish green.
4. If the temperature drops below 10℃, extend the waiting time for activation.
Mistake 3: Mix with other chemicals or store improperly
Combining chlorine dioxide with 84 disinfectant, alcohol, toilet cleaners or acidic cleaning agents will weaken disinfection and create safety risks.
- Mixing with other chlorine-based disinfectants may produce irritating fumes.
- Alcohol will break down the active composition and reduce sterilising power.
- Strong acid and organic matter will make the disinfectant decompose quickly, losing its effectiveness.
- Heat, direct sunlight and damp storage will speed up ingredient deterioration.
Once the active substance decomposes early, the disinfectant will lose most of its power before use.
Storage and preparation rules:
1. Mix and use this disinfectant separately. Never blend it with other disinfectants or acid & alkali chemicals.
2. Keep the container tightly sealed and store it in a cool, dry and ventilated warehouse.
3. Use the newly mixed solution within 24 hours to avoid ingredient loss from volatilisation.
4. Choose reliable products with complete official approvals. Xiuba chlorine dioxide made by Shandong Huashi Pharmaceutical has full test reports and filing documents, with clear operation guides for field workers.
Wrap-up
Poor disinfection mostly comes down to these three points:
1. Stick to the recommended concentration for each scenario; do not increase dosage blindly.
2. Fully dissolve and activate the product before use.
3. Avoid mixing with other chemicals, and strictly follow storage rules.
